In 1955 Surrey had the amazing achievement, unlikely ever to be matched,
of reaching a definite result in all of their Championship fixtures: 23
wins, 5 losses, no draws.
Actually, it was matched 12 years ago: Neither Essex (+8-9) nor Durham
(+4-13) drew a match in 1995; Warwickshire (+14=1-2) drew one, and
beat Surrey's winning percentage. (It was an unusually good season:
Middlesex - thanks to Ramprakash's 2147 runs and the wickets of
Emburey & Tufnell, and Northants - thanks largely to Lamb and Kumble -
each won 12 matches; four of Northants' wins bordered on the
miraculous).
Thanks. You're right. I'm surprised, but I'm afraid that 1995 is a bit
recent for me to remember. :) I suppose that playing 4 day matches must
have helped.
