Highly improbable.

Um. Time to name names, then.
Which "uk.s.c" regulars are
you claiming couldn't do so?

Almost all. 44 names is a lot to come up with straight out of your head. It seems simple till you try to do it. Unless someone has a really good grasp of Surrey's history they would struggle. RH

Bear in mind that "Smith" alone scores
10, "Brown" another 4, .... Even "R Henderson" is there!

And of course mine were not just 44 names but names
chosen for excellence and excellence in declining order. RH

Ah, well, that's a different claim. But one that quite a few
regulars could surely match, starting with [but not confined to] all
who have contributed to this thread, esp if they're given the same
latitude that you had.

Your evidence for this? Don't forget I did this in ten minutes with no reference to books or the internet. RH

There's no
*merit* in doing that "in ten minutes from their head"
I directly disproved your point by doing so. Next! RH

So what *merit* are you claiming for this feat?
It is mere
showing off, esp as you were not asked to do it. It did not involve
any research on your part, nor any hard work, as you yourself claim.

Is this a new ng rule, ie, one cannot challenge a poster's claims unless invited to do so? Rh

I note you have not said who you would have put in place of those I
choose in my first eleven. RH

I scarcely care; as I said at the start, there is no problem
producing such teams. I am not as squeamish as John and would have
had Lock in for Fender; apart from that it scarcely matters which
two you pick of Bedser/Lockwood/Richardson,

Apples and oranges. Bedser is FM, Lockwood a batting fast bowler and and Richardson a fast bowler. The balance of the team has to be taken into account. RH

one of Stewart/McIntyre,

The balance of the team requires Stewart's batting. RH

or two of Edrich/Hayward/Sandham;

Edrich clearly scores over Sandham both by his greater Test experience and his left handedness. RH

and I agree with John that we are
very near, if not past, the stage where Ramprakash's astonishing
average, with all the caveats that apply to it, has forced him into
the reckoning, to displace [eg] Hayward or Barrington. Virtually
any such team [including yours] is perfectly defensible.

Nope. There are clearly criteria by which one player is superior to another. For example, Barrington scores over Ramprakash because he did it on the big stage. Not only that but Barrington played all his CC on uncovered pitches, including the first half dozen years on f his career on the filthy Oval pitches of the fifties. Ramprakash has had the benefit of uncovered pitches and of missing most of the really devastating fast bowling of the overseas players. RH
