Not sure about the rest but I think you are wrong about the
acceleration being significant. The collision between bat and ball
only lasts for about 1 ms, so any acceleration of the bat during that
short time span is probably insignificant. All that matters is the
relative speed between bat and ball.

That could well be the case, are there documented measurements of bat
acceleration and contact time?




THere were some on the website I quoted, but not all the pages seem to be
available tonight. I took the liberty of emailing Dr Russell whose page it
is and he gave me the 1ms figure.
