This article says that for the first time in history a depression in the
Mediterranean has been  classified  (by NOAA) as a tropical depression. A
temperature differential of 40C with sea surface temp 20C, temp at 5000-6000
m minus 20 and the satellite photo shows almost symmetrical structure of the
clouds resembling that of a tropical storm (it says).
