Thank you Alistair, Brian and John for your quick replies.
I have a friend who I think uses Perl, so this maybe the one to
concentrate on. I've bookmarked that tutorial and will have a read.
Code writing is one thing to get a grips with, then theres the
'window' interface, where you have a little 'user interface' or
something.
Johns correct with the sort of thing I'm looking for, but there a
number of things that I would like to do to simplify my synop
decoding, but the main one is data grabbing. For example:
http://weather.noaa.gov/pub/SL.us008001/DF.an/DC.sflnd/DS.synop/
I would like to be able to grab this data every say 6 hours from which
it sorts into individual hourly files, similar to what you see on fsu
and dupage.
http://www.met.fsu.edu/rawdata/syn/
Unfortunately my level is the almost about 0.5. I have had some
success with macros in excel, but the interfaces I use were kindly
written for me back in 2002 and I still use these daily.
Many thanks
