Thanks MCC I had a feeling that the serial interface may be an issue. I will
be wanting a high performance tower (as I need it for other things as well)
so should be able to fit a card.

A friend had problems setting up his new weather station on a new
computer.

I think the main problem was not having a serial port into which he could
plug the thing. Seemingly very few machines come with serial ports these
days. Not a problem with a PC tower as an expansion card can be fitted but
definitely a problem on a laptop.

He tried a couple of Serial to USB adapters but Windows Vista did not like
the drivers for those gadgets, despite him being assured that they were
compatible.

In the end he had to re-format the hard drive on his new computer to get
rid
of Windows Vista and installed Windows XP Pro. An expensive solution in
his
case as the OEM wouldn't do a downgrade deal for him. So far as I'm aware
everything is now running OK.

Morgan Computers usually have some decent refurbished machines available
at

Maybe one of those might suit your Davis VP set up?
