I've often wondered the same, especially as in the Autumn the clocksI agree. When the clocks went back last October, the Sunrise in this part
don't change until late October, (equiv to approx 18th Feb by the
sun).
I realise that the 'darkest' morning is around 10 days after the
shortest day, but that doesn't explain the big date differences in the
change to & from BST.
I think most people in 9-5 jobs (fortunately not me!) would appreciate
lighter evenings throughout March.

According to tables I've been looking at, we would have reached a similar
position with regard to sunset back on 29 January, and with regard to
sunrise on 2 March, yet we still have to put up with a further four weeks of
GMT.
