Top end of F6 - even I have been known to sail dinghies in that, albeit with reduced rig. And on warm water. A bit breezy by Surrey standards, though and with heavy rain.
Just spent a pleasant but fruitless half-hour with pencil and paper trying to draw a schematic diagram of what the air-masses are doing. Based on http://www.wetterzentrale.de/pics/brack2a.gif. The occluded front visually doubling back across the Atlantic did take the eye.
Time for me to look at Mr Rowley's explanation of Zonality, I guess.
