Because the wife insists :-) It is the only day of the week when he's

Yes, he did. It's a shame he was such a tight-fisted old
*** but his implied anti-consumerism is precisely what we need at
this time of year. The two characteristics do not necessarily go hand
in hand.
I send quite a few cards and buy modest presents for the
family, and they for me, but I am quite staggered at the amount many
people spend at Christmas, to what end God only knows.
And another thing; for the vast majority there will be no
snow; there very rarely is. Get over it.
