They were trialled on a stretch of the A1065 near RAF Lakenheath;
they've been there for years now.
They seem to work very well. Being LEDs, they have a flicker about them
which is a bit annoying, and of course the most surprising thing of all
is seeing them in your mirror (backwards).
They have also been tested on a road near me (Minley Road leading to
J4a of the M3), and they seemed pretty useless. When they were first
installed they worked very well, and lit up a very dark stretch of
road very clearly, but within a few months most of them had packed up
and only about a third of them still worked. You'd think they could
incorporate a standard cat's-eye type reflector as a back-up for when
the LED doesn't work...
