loke is no longer a Hurricane but has now entered the western Western
Pacific and become a Super Typhoon. Is ths the first time this has
happend?
The pressure of 921hpa seems a little high as a record for a cat 5
storm considering how low the central pressure was last year in some
the Atlantic storms. Hurricane WILMA reached 882hpa.

According to this week's New Scientist:
"Hurricane Ioke was the first category 5 storm on record to develop in
the central Pacific, according to the US National Weather Service.
Satellite images of the eye of the storm on 25 August show that it set
an unofficial record for the lowest sea-level pressure in the Central
Pacific, just 921 millibars."
