What latitude is that then? We don't get much more than 7 hrs decent
daylight(*) mid winter?
Northeast England, to be precise... yes, I know it's already noticebly
darker in the mornings and most certainly noticebly darker in the
evenings... and yes, it's going to get a lot darker still... BUT, even when
the winter solstice draws nigh, there's still the possibility of seeing the
sun.
I reckon I could easily turn to drink if I was faced with the prospect of a
faint glow on the horizon around 11am, only for it to disappear soon after
midday!
I think the lack of anything green in the summer would be just as bad...
Do you mean here (as in drought-ridden UK) or in Svalbard?
As for Svalbard, I described it's apparent 'stark' beauty. I had already
noticed from the webcams that there seemed to be a lack of greenery, trees,
hanging baskets and the like!
I bet they don't have many summer BBQs in that neck of the woods (probably
don't even have a 'neck of the woods' to speak of)...
