Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for noon on Friday. Issued 0550z,
17 July 06.
The models have backtracked on the breakdown from yesterday. Although it
will get cooler by the end of the week, it'll still be on the warm side for
England and Wales at least. There's a risk of some showers according to some
models (eg ECM), but the general picture is one of a col or a ridge for the
UK during the weekend.
ECMWF: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Recm1201.gif
Complex low pressure lies to the west with SW'lies across Northern Ireland
and Scotland. Elsewhere winds are light due to a col, but by T+144 a trough
moves across Scotland; this leads to westerlies for England and Wales with
SW'lies persisting across Northern Ireland. Pressure builds over England and
Wales at T+168 with light winds there and southerlies elsewhere.
MetO: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rukm1201.gif
The UK lies under a ridge with light winds for all. There's little change at
T+144.
GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.png
A weak ridge covers the Celtic Sea, leading to light NW'lies for much of
England and Wales. Elsewhere winds are SW'lies or southerlies, with a low
west of Scotland. A col brings light winds for all at T+144, followed by
light NE'lies for many on day 7 as pressure builds to the north.
GEM: http://meteocentre.com/models/glb00_120.html
Light winds cover England and Wales due to a ridge, with westerlies and
SW'lies elsewhere.
JMA: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rjma1201.gif
The Japanese run shows a col and light winds for all.
NOGAPS: http://85.214.49.20/pics/Rngp1201.gif
NGP also shows a col for many areas, although a weak ridge brings WNW'lies
for southern England and Wales.
