Rummaging through the 'archives' of the soon-to-be-no-more Cardiff
Weather Centre, I came across boxes of these cards. They are
handwritten in ink, very neatly, and cover all regions of the UK with
Max, Min, Rainfall and Sunshine plus a short resume of the months
weather. They seem to start in 1917 and continue through to the 1950s.
Apparently the Library have taken everything they need, so these are
destined for the skip which seems a rather sad end for something which
has taken so much time to complete.
Does anyone know anything about these cards? Would anyone find them
useful?
For instance, the May 1917 entry says:- "Warm with frequent
thunderstorms. The fine warm weather during the latter part of April
continued throughout May, although there were frequent thundery
outbreaks on the 10th - 14th, 19th - 21st and 26th - 29th. They were
widespread over England and occurred at one place or another on 20 days
during the month.
Just in case he isn't reading the newsgroup at the moment, I think Philip Eden might be interested in them.
I agree that it would be a pity if they ended up in a skip. If Philip (or anyone else) does not want them I would be happy to find a space on my shelves for them.
Norman.
