Re: [OT]Highest Tide of the Year

Highest tide of the year today. Fortunately down here in Cornwall the
pressure's not too low 999), the wind is not particularly strong
(currently Force 4-5) and is not in the SE (the worst direction for
places like Torquay, Dawlish & Penzance). Also the swell is
surprisingly small considering the mobile conditions, there are no deep
depressions in mid Atlantic. Mind you a rip current associated with a
strongly flowing tide led to 3 people being rescued from the surf near
Perranporth yesterday.

I would have thought with the wind in the SW, places up the Severn
(perhaps West Bay near Weston) might get some flooding.

There is an astonishing level of ignorance about tides even in Gt
Britain. This is not just due to the misguided efforts of those who
aught to be expert in the matter but due to their insistance on keping
data and other useful information secret or semi secret.

All the more hienous when it is publically funded information. Only to
be expected from a political extremist party run by a professional
middleman. A chimpanzee's monkey as it were. A conservatory, elitist's
party masquerading as a people's party.

The situation is mirrored in the Met Office only with the Met Office
their data is freely available from "free" countries.

But the OP ws talking about a phenomenon that is ascribed to the tides
of the south east coast. The explanation is that storms in the north of
the North sea drive an extra helping of water down to the neck of the
Channel.

It is alledged to build up at this bottle neck.

Again the basic root cause of tides and weather is not understood. Even
this thaumaturge is struggling with such matters. (Consider this PDF:
http://www.fields.utoronto.ca/~rroeder/roeder_cornell.pdf from this
site: http://www.fields.utoronto.ca/~rroeder/)

One would have thought that an absence of pressure would be more a
cause for wonder than a parking space for effect.
