Old Hand

Dear All,

I've been a lurker and occasional poster to this group for thousands of
years. Well since soon after its inception (1996-7?) anyway.

I Spent many happy hours digesting the wealth of info presented here. Back
then global warming was a hot scientific subject and it was usually the
subject most likely to prompt me to post. It has been interesting watching
the gradual hijacking of GW by the snivelling political elite mostly as an
excuse to wring more taxes out of us. But unless those taxes are used to
mount a devastating nuclear attack on China I don't see how taxing us will
help reduce the CO2 level in the atmosphere (whether necessary or not). It
does, however, help fund the growing army of poorly educated researchers
falling out of our universities who then pump our ever dimmer politicians
full of half arsed garbage.

I digress!

I eventually stopped looking in on the group when a couple or so berks felt
the need to demonstrate the abysmal standards of education in our
universities in recent years. One in particular who springs to mind I
believe is doing just fine as a "professional" meteorologist these days. It
was just one flame war after another.

After an absence of 3 or 4 years I recently came back for a look. Plenty of
new faces ! Nice to see Will keeping order. Some of the other stalwarts are
still making occasional post. It was good to see that there is a solid core
of interesting folk on board. Lawrence Jenkins- Your are awful but I like
you! If ever Peter Hitchin's needs a ghost writer for his Sunday Mail column
Lawrence is his man. It was good to see Joe Hunt is still around and also a
fine example of someone who loves and understands his science.

So "Why is he posting" you may wonder. Well I have been back looking in here
most evenings for a few weeks now and I would like to say I have really
enjoyed it! My current desktop wallpaper is a picture posted here last week
showing a foggy vista viewed from a hill top-beautiful! Been looking at some
24hr Timelapse movies from Lanarkshire-Great Stuff. And as for slagging off
that inept quango we call the Met Office - keep it up. They need to get back
to science. My granny is dead and I don't need a nanny.

Well there's another poke at the hornets nest.

Paulus
