Summary valid for Sunday 27/11/05 to Saturday 03/12/05
TOI (time of issue) Thursday 24/11/05 2030 UK local time

This summary is based on a quick appraisal of the GFS, JMA, ECMWF, UKMO, FAX,
and ENS (NCEP ensemble) labelled charts available from the superb

Moderate to high confidence for the cold weather to last till Tuesday but low
confidence for details after that.

On Sunday generally a mix of sunny spells and showers wintry in the north and
over hills. Possibility of some heavy sleet and snow in the SE Saturday
night/Sunday from a small low in sea area Thames, perhaps affecting the London
area, generally cold. On Monday light to moderate northerly winds will bring a
mixture of sunny spells and showers. Showers will be wintry over hills in the
south above 150m and generally wintry in the north. Sheltered inland areas not
exposed to the north wind will remain dry. Frost and patchy fog on Sunday and
Monday nights. On Tuesday staying rather cold with sunny spells and dry in the
south but still a few wintry showers in northern areas. On Wednesday a change is
likely to take place with rain, preceeded by sleet and snow over high ground,
spreading across northern areas in strengthening westerly winds whilst most of
England and Wales stay mainly dry with just some patchy rain in the west and
north. Turning milder in the north but staying rather cold in the SE with night
frost. For the rest of the week the most likely scenario is for the south to
remain dry and rather cold with frost and patchy fog at night while northern
areas stay changeable and mild with rain at times in fresh west to southwest
winds, possibly turning colder again at the weekend with snow showers returning
to northern Scotland later.

Outlook for the following week with very low confidence is for an easterly to
become established in the south as pressure tends to build from the east with
most places becoming dry and cold for a while. Chance of another very cold
northerly outbreak later.

Phew !

That's it, where did I put that bottle of malt :-)

Take care,

Will. (Chief forecaster HMO/USW)
