Here is a summary of the latest NWP output for 12z on Monday. Issued 0540z,
29/09/05.
The models show a typical north/south split for the first half of next week,
with a ridge bringing increasingly settled conditions the further south you
are.
ECMWF: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Recm1201.gif
Westerlies and WSW'lies cover the UK, due to a high to the south. The high
moves NE'wards at T+144, introducing SW'lies across the UK. Winds are light
over England and Wales and they remain relatively light on day 7 as the high
continues moving NE'wards. Elsewhere a weak trough brings westerlies.
MetO: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rukm1201.gif
MetO shows a ridge over the UK, bringing NE'lies to southern England and
SW'lies elsewhere. The ridge persists over England and Wales at T+144 whilst
Scotland and Northern Ireland lie under SW'lies.
GFS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rtavn1201.gif
Scotland and Northern Ireland lie under SW'lies, with light and variable
winds over much of England and Wales due to a ridge. The ridge remains over
England and Wales at T+144 and also affects SE Scotland; elsewhere winds are
SSW'lies. Southerlies and SSE'lies cover the UK at T+144 as the ridge moves
away to the NE.
GEM: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rgem1201.gif
A mixture of westerlies and northerlies covers the UK, due to a high to the
south of Ireland.
GME/DWD:
http://www.wetter.com/home/img/sat/gme_cl_EU/m/xl/200509290000_120.gif
As with GEM, a high is located to the south of Ireland. This time it brings
westerlies for most, with the lightest winds over SE England. The high moves
NE'wards at T+144, leaving England and Wales under light SW'lies from a
ridge. Elsewhere winds are stronger SW'lies due to a trough to the west.
JMA: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rjma1201.gif
The Japanese run also shows westerlies and northerlies, once again due to a
high to the south of Ireland.
NOGAPS: http://217.160.75.104/pics/Rngp1201.gif
Westerlies cover the UK with a ridge to the south. The ridge moves NE'wards
at T+144 to affect southern England. Elsewhere, winds are moderate WSW'lies.
KMA: http://www.kma.go.kr/kma03/gif/g21nh_smsr_120.gif
The Korean model shows a ridge over the UK with light winds for most. The
exception is northern Scotland, which lies under SW'lies.
