Think of a hurricane as a vortex moving in a current of air. The current is
moving slowly guided by upper tropospheric winds but the vortex within that
current is spinning wildly.

A hurricane packs the power of a million nukes so one will barely scratch the
surface but as you say the radiation would cause more long term damage than any
hurricane. Hurricane wind and water damage can in theory be repaired, radiation
damage will last for hundreds of years.
