Re: I've Heard Everything Now!

Precisely. These days, do we get weather forecasters who actually know something about meteorology or not? The answer seems to be no. I recall in the 1970s when About Anglia had two excellent forecasters on it, Michael Hunt and David Brookes. Both these two had degrees in atmospheric physics. Watching the weather forecast from those two was an education in its own right and went a long way to helping me become very interested in the subject. I am sure that many other people benefitted from it also, on what was then a truly excellent weather forecasting service.
Move things along 20 years and I recall reading a magazine and the feature was on the likes of weather girls such as Ulrica Johnsson and others and they were almost proud of the fact that they had no qualifications on meteorology or anything pertaining to it.
Ulrica Johnsson said that she " recognised rain when she saw it". :-( How sad. There is not much you can say really.

Try to look on the bright side. Weather forecasts that do not provide what people really want will prompt many to learn more about the weather in order to provide their own forecasts. This is what prompted me to take an initial interest in any case. Once they start learning about meteorology it will be difficult not to be caught up in the enthusiasm shown in usw (and elsewhere). The information gleaned in this newsgroup (notably from Will Hand and Darren prescott) coupled with information easily obtained through the internet can easily provide a much better forecast than the weak and wooly TV ones.

Who needs TV forecasts? Let's just promote usw.
