I saw the same effect, roughly an hour before dusk, maybe less. The
colour was yellow/orange as you might expect just before sunset... but
it was from directly overhead and looked... weird.. I went out to
investigate, camera in hand.

There was about 7/8 cloud cover, fast moving SC I think, with a gap
overhead, through which I could see a small patch of blue sky... and a
much higher bright yellow/orange cloud... it looked like an
overhanging anvil from a thunderstorm off to my East. The anvil seemed
to be catching the bright evening sun from its West and below, thick
SC to the West cutting out the normal evening illumination from the
sun. Most of the light received was being reflected from the anvil
overhead.

'Twas an eery experience and the most similar I can recall was in the
1999 Solar Eclipse, looking out from Brixham across Lyme Bay to beyond
the umbral shadow - the distant penumbral colours were similar to what
came from overhead tonight. Once the gap in the SC closed, it went
dark very rapidly indeed. Fascinating!

There was thunder and lighting here but nothing too severe, however, i
telephoned someone further South East (under that CuNim) and things
were much more "interesting" there!
