We usually holiday in the early July and this year and last year we
were in France. This year seemed the better of the two. Both times
we ended up by the Med, driven there by poor weather. Last year the
area around Marseilles was the only place in France where it wan't
raining. This year we quit the Auvergne when the forcast promised us
half a doxen more days of 13c maxima before there was any improvement
(we were camping at an altitude of about 1000m asl).

But the weather did improve there eventually, although by then we had
decamped for the Med.

BTW does anyone know why the Med off the south of France always seems
to be colder in early July than the Atlantic south of Bordeaux. We
holidayed on the atlantic coast for some years when the kids were
teenagers and keen on surfing, and sea temperatures were usually 20 or
21C. In the med this year the temperature was 16C and it felt cold.
