FREE EVENT - MAYFIELD OPEN DAY AND ASTRONOMY SPECTACULAR

Astronomers from the Sheffield Astronomical Society are inviting the
public to observe the Sun this Saturday (19th) and have extra fun
supporting the Mayfield Environmental Centre. Running from 10 am till
4 pm, visitors can drop into the events on David Lane in Fulwood
Sheffield S10 4PH.
Besides great stalls and tombolas, the astronomers are bringing the
equipment needed for you to observe the Sun's surface safely. Good
healthy fun for all the family in the wonderful countryside on the
west of the city.
"We are lucky enough to have an amazing £2000 solar telescope," says
society vice-president James O'Neill. "Seeing the surface of the Sun
with your own eyes is priceless."

The astronomers warn that you should never look directly at the Sun
without such special equipment and supervision. At the event there
will also be information regarding the latest missions into space.
The weather reports looks OK. Refreshments will be available, there
will be plenty of free information and astronomers to answer any
questions.
For more information please ring the astronomy hotline on
0778 518 5240 or visit www.sheffieldastro.org.uk

Membership of the Sheffield Astronomical Society gives you free
entrance to all events and is only £25 a year for adults and £5 for
under 18's.

How'd it go?
