"This is the story of a scientific crime. ... I mean a crime committed
by a scientist against fellow scientists and scholars, a betrayal of
the ethics and integrity of his profession that has forever deprived
mankind of fundamental information about an important area of astronomy
and history. ....[Ptolemy] developed certain astronomical theories and
discovered that they were not consistent with observation. Instead of
abandoning the theories, he deliberately fabricated observations from
the theories so that he could claim that the observations prove the
validity of his theories. In every scientific or scholarly setting
known, this practice is called fraud, and it is a crime against science
and scholarship. " Newton
Not Copernicus *,not Kepler and none of the early heliocentrists ever
accused Ptolemy of fraud and he did not commit any fraud. He did create
the Equant to try to account for his geocentric conclusions but that is
as far as it goes, the Keplerian refinement directed the Ptolemaic
Equant to an orbitally moving Earth with variations in orbital speed
to replace the Ptolemaic geocentric conception.
That 17th century peevish tyrannt did something Ptolemy or those who
followed him never done.He introduced the stellar background into
heliocentricity by using the Keplerian reasoning designed to justify
heliocentricity and that is fraud. This is not an accustation,it is an
unfortunate and terrible and destructive observation.
