This is probably the true fl of lens - not the 35mm format equivalent.

As a rough guide the moon's diameter is ~1/100th of the fl of the lens
or ~0.9 mm diameter on the camera sensor and seemed enlarged >65 times
at a guess which is much too much for a small image. Try half this
magnification or use the camera behind a binocular to get a larger
image in the first place. If the bins introduce unwanted colour then
kill the colour [greyscale] via your PSP software.

I hadn't thought of setting my camera to monochrome. I like that idea, thanks.
