To Teatime
If you are assigning the value for axial rotation as 23 hours 56 min 04
sec, you are bound by the mathematics to assign a value of 24 hours to
the Sun exactly and this contradicts every observation known
since antiquity that no two full rotations are the same hence the
Equation of Time.
So,the sidereal problem is very specific and very easy to resolve. You
may ignore
the first paragraph if you find it tough going.
The natural unequal day, or what amounts to the same thing - the
rotation of the Earth back to noon is conditioned by a fixed and
constant motion and orientation on one side against a changing motion
and
orientation on the other ,the former axial rotation and the latter
orbital motion.The
17th/18th century cataloguers, with Newton in tow ,combined axial and
orbital motion into a homogenised calendrical average for axial
rotation which suits the RA / DEC system and gives Newton's his AU
values or mean Sun/Earth distances. It is a very cozy relationship and
while the flexibility of assigning planetary motions with the stellar
background (sidereal format) is fine as a convenience as both
Ptolemaic and Copernican astronomers used it,the misjudgement or
misconduct in borrowing a axial coordinate of .986 degree/3 min 56 sec
and forcing it into an orbital displacement is nothing short of
intellectual vandalism of the worst order. That particular maneuver
belongs to Newton.
When people are prepared to stop dithering around with this sidereal
charade and address the situation like men there will be absolutely no
need for me to recycle the main point of the benefits of keeping
axial and orbital
motions isolated from each other before becoming comfortable and
familiar with the working principles of compound axial and orbital
motions. The only way to do that is by going outside and try and put
motions into their correct perspective
Do you clearly understand that no two full rotations back to the Sun
are the same hence the Equation of Time correction ?.Just take the
small step yourself in figuring out how the equable 24 hour day was
adapted by the heliocentrists to axial rotation as an isolated motion.A
clear understanding should allow you to consider constant and
independent axial rotation as an inferred principle rather than an
observed fact unfortunately the sidereal justification imposes a Earth
rotation to the Sun in 24 hours as an observed fact and then on to the
sidereal value rather than the
more stable heliocentric view of axial rotation in isolation.
The flip side of axial rotation in isolation is orbital motion in
isolation and even the Ptolemaic astronomers recognised that. The
observed periodic looping motions of the planets in Ptolemaic
astronomy became the faster Earth taking an inner orbital circuit to
the slower moving outer planets in Copernican heliocentricity -

Appreceate axial rotation in isolation and you have the 24 hour clock
system, appreceate orbital motion in isolation and you have Copernican
heliocentricity and its later refinements, stick with the sidereal
justification for axial and orbital motion and you have neither.Just in
case,if you think I care about what is right and what is not then you
are mistaken, the correct relationship between axial and orbital motion
will be required for climatological, geological and astronomical
purposes,if you and your colleagues can live with the errors and
misjudgements of the cataloguers and theorists then good for you.
These principles exist whether I present them or not,and the worst
thing possible is to identify the principles as my opinions for they
are not ,they belong to an older heritage which was almost buried by
17th century misjudgements or misconduct.. I do not particularly think
much of my explanations but it sometimes happens that some other people
are better suited to providing clear explanations of a heritage which
exists whether people acknowledge it or not however the indications are
that men presently do not have the astronomical fluency to surmount
even the basic principles of celestial motions such as witnessed in
this thread here.
