Mars imaging advice needed

I finally got a good look at Mars tonight. I could make out some
surface detail and I could see two moons (Phobos and Deimos as far as I
can tell) so I was pretty pleased with the visual observing.
I had a go at imaging using the Meade LPI with my 8" LX90 and I'm
obviously doing something wrong. This is what I saw in the imaging
software:

I'd appreciate some pointers on what I'm doing wrong. I tried lowering
the exposure time but then I got a heavily pixelated image with no
definition. Is the problem with collimation or focussing perhaps?
I went on to image the moon and got some reasonable images so the
equipment is definitely working ok.
Thanks,
Andy.
