Re: nightvision "safe" red bulbs ?

not sure about the bulbs, but you can solve the maglite problem easily... a
few companies are now making drop-in replacements for the globe in maglites
using LEDs. You can get "white" (actually blue) ones and red ones.
Alternatively, use flattish batteries and some red theatrical lighting
filter ("gel") from your local theatre or amateur theatre company. Theatre
companies go through old gel all the time, and the offcuts would be big
enough to use for a maglite filter. If you ask for an old piece of "Rosco
27" they'll give you some nice primary red gel, and they'll think you know
what you're talking about too!
