Great book -- I love the way Gaiman develops the 'we create the gods' theme. And yes, he describes the American gods quite well.

Gaiman's writing strikes me, by the way, as 'as good as he wants it to be.' He often strikes me as a craftsman, a creator of popular writing. But he is quite capable of artistry, and achieves that level quite often in _American Gods_. I loved his digression on Donne's "No man is an island"; I also loved the segment on the forgotten god, the revered mammoth's head.
