Follow-up. :unit
My last post doesn't mean to insinuate that every capacitor inside the
is lethal, indeed after 24 hours of power-off virtually all, (Possiblywith
the exception of the CRT side-contact's "virtual-capacitor".) capacitorsbe
will be fully-discharged. The main problem that I forsee is that you will
unable to access the innards of the VCR tape deck from the back of theunit
without possibly having to remove circuit boards and open the deck fromthe
top, if indeed it will so open from there. Without actually seeing yourunit
and attempting the operation myself it would be unwise of me to adviseeasily
further upon the issue. Indeed it may be that it is quite possible to
free the tape. Then again it is also possible that attempting to do sowill
further damage the unit.the
My advice from this distance, without seeing the unit and without having
knowledge of the relevant technical details, would be to take it to a
qualified electronics engineer in a repair shop, and have them complete
operation professionally. (Engineers are more qualified than techniciansstrewn
BTW, therefore they should be able to sort the problem out far more easily
and with better result than any advice I am able to give.)
I feel that you may end up with components, parts, and circuit boards
everywhere, unable to remember exactly how they all fit back together, anda
video deck with the tape still stuck inside it. At the end of the day itmay
be a case of taking it to a workshop for professional repair = £20, oryrs.
buying a new unit having wrecked this one = £200.
(Been there, done similar - and it is almost guaranteed to piss you right
off if it happens! Hence engineers train 4-6 yrs. Technicians train 1-2
: Engineers repair and create things. Technicians make tea for engineers,Thankyou, both yourself and Mike for the advice. I think I'll unplug it for
set up test equipment, collect components requested by engineers, clean
tools, do general odd-jobs around the repair shop...You get my drift.)
Personally, even though in the know, I'd play it safe with this and get an
engineer to sort it out at your local repair shop.
a day, take the back off and if it doesn't look accessable then i'll stop
there and put the back back on. I know it was only an 80quid one out of
ASDA but I can't afford to lose it entirely. It's weird, the eject
mechanism doesn't even seem to be trying to pop out.
