Science and the Séance Wed 31 Aug, 9:00 pm - 10:00 pm 60mins
Tracing the 150-year history of the Spiritualist religion, this programme reveals the unlikely and surprisingly close relationship between science and a religion that not only claims there is life after death, but that communication between the two worlds is possible.
Using rare private footage and stills, gripping personal testimony and interviews with theologians and historians of science, the film explores the cultural, social and technological influences that informed the movement's development. [S]

Thank you so much for posting this info. I'm currently writing an article on Spiritualism and Wicca and may well benefit from watching this programme.
Thanks again ..
Shirley Ghostman...
I'd forgotten all about Shirley Ghostman! For people who don't know, this was a programme on BBC3 where a comedian called Mark something pretended to be the disturbed and sexually ambiguous psychic Mr Shirley Ghostman, with long blond hair and a white suit. It was a bit like Ali G, where he was sending up gullible members of the public.
But it made a serious point, in a way. Scientists are just as likely to be fooled by conjuring tricks and "cold reading" as anyone else. It will be interesting to see what the documentary has to say about it.
I went along to my local spiritualist church a few weeks ago to have a look.
*Very* Shirley Ghostman. The clairvoyant/medium had some big problems with me since I don't have much in the way of body language or much of a normal family or circle of friends. What did impress me though were the two non-trivial 'messages' which were the very first and very last things she said after sweating for about 5 min.
From my research it would seem that this performance is typical of talented, but untrained, 'remote viewers' as discovered in the CIA STARGATE program etc.
