I don't know if many here have seen it yet, but I recently saw "What the
bleep do we know?" - it reflected one of the theories that seems to ring
true. There is no such thing as the ultimate objective observer - everything
that observes the universe is both part of that observation and limited by
its own existence. Therefore the universe is exploring itself as the
ultimate observer, by experiencing itself through every possible method of
observing, be it through plants, insects, animals or humans, then combining
those observations.

I guess this is kind of like the universal subconscious, but people forget
that it shouldn't just include human perceptions.
