Make me a Muslim: What's the Point?

Can Islam help repair the moral fabric of British society? To test it out, Imam Ajmal Masroor asks six non-Muslims and one lapsed Muslim to follow Islamic teachings for three weeks. The six come from Harrogate, in Yorkshire, a town with very few ethnic minority inhabitants.
On January 6, 2008, Euro-Muslims Page hosted Ajmal Masroor, the Imam who presented the show, in a Live Dialogue to talk with IOL’s readers on evaluating the experience of the program, Make Me a Muslim. that was broadcasted last month on channel 4.
Ajmal Masroor, is the director of Communities in Action Enterprises which specializes in community development and cohesion work. It develops and provides capacity building programs for all sections of the community. It also provides advice and guidance to voluntary sector organizations, government agencies and local authorities on
wide range of issues especially faith based initiatives in general and Muslim community in specific. He is an Imam leading Friday prayers in four mosques in a monthly rotation across London.
In response to a question about the purpose of the program Ajmal said "The purpose of these programs was to help a group of non-Muslims experience Islam and gain understanding of both Islam and the Muslims."
He also replied to many questions concerning the feedback he got on the program and he said that the response varied between positive and negative responses and that he is pleased with the overall outcome and that all the participants found the experience greatly rewarding and life-changing.
In an answer to a question on the choice of the Imams of the program Ajmal said that he did not choose the Imams and he had no say over who was chosen for the program, he also drew attention to the importance of finding good Imams in UK, he said " if our Imams are not of a standard that we like and that serves our community and country well, then why employ them in the first place? Imams must be able to present Islam well and wisely or there is a problem." He also said that If this program showed Imams as problems then this should be taken as a wake up call for the Muslim community.
