As some of you will be aware our current moderator is not acting within the
charter, he sanctions some for an offence and does not sanction others for
the same offence, he places people on manual for indeterminate periods and
he threatens posters and makes conditions which he has no authority to
impose. He has partly rectified this with regards to Jeff, although he has
since posted several caveats as to what Jeff can and cannot post.

Having re-read the charter (last read some years ago) it does state
that someone on manual must be for a fixed period and the poster told
the length of time they are to be on manual.

I have already made the following suggestion and i think it a valid
one.

1. First sancton 7 days moderation, 2nd sanction within 3 months 30
days moderation 3rd sanction within 3 months temporary ban from the
newsgroup for say 3 to 6 months. Above period subject to what the
moderators want to implement, of course.

I don't believe it would need any changes to the charter to implement
this.

What the charter doesn't allow for, and Mark or another moderator
please correct me if I am wrong, the indefinite moderation of a
poster.

As Christianity is about forgiveness I would like to suggest that both
Jeff and yourself are removed from moderation and the slate wiped
clean, not only by the moderation team, but by yourselves too.

I would hope that you both then not just work within the charter, but
within the spirit of the charter too.

Having also scanned the meta-faq the point is raised about quoting
multitudes of Bible verses There are two good sources online that
people can check so I think that posting a multitude of texts as Jeff
is prone to do should be classed as against the spirit of the charter.
I will endeavour to be more careful myself in future.

Our charter does not allow for the removal of a moderator and I have been
informed by Tony Evans (control@xxxxxxxxxxxxx) that in order to remove Mr
Goodge from his position the charter needs to be changed. In order to do so
the name of the new moderator and the proposed new procedure for appointing
a moderator would need to be inserted in to the charter.

Therefore I would be obliged if people would let me know if they would be
interested in the position of moderator and/or if they feel able to compose
the relevant wording to amend the charter.

Being the moderator I am assuming means running the technical side
(moderbot) which Mark currently does voluntarily. If Mark was to be
replaced you would need someone with the technical know how to run the
system.

I would not like to see Mark replaced but I would like to see all the
moderators apply sanctions fairly and across the board.
