No doubt, but a) we are not Portugese, and b) it remains to be seen
whether the Portugese experiment is successful in the long term.

a) is not as irrelevant as you might think. Culture, personality and
family involvement and support play a large part in drug use, as Tony
Blair found out when he tried to introduce French drinking habits into
Britain. What works over there is a horrible failure here.

b) is even more relevant. The Dutch, long held up as the ideal "free"
society, are finding that the experiment has a lot of down sides and
are starting to clamp down on drugs and sex.
