It is this sheer unwillingness to allow the possibility that he, and others might just be wrong about homosexuality, and might just be misinterpreting God's will, that seems to me to be destructive of genuine conversation. They are right, and only they, so it appears. Others, whether Christian or not, are wrong, period.

Of course I accept that I might be wrong. I could be wrong about
anything on that list, and anything else that I consider to be sinful
but which might not be. For that matter, I could easily be wrong about
things that I *don't* think are sinful but, in fact, are. I am as
likely to be wrong about any of these as you are, on the whole. But
you seem to be insisting that a reasoned and careful conclusion that
something is a sin is nothing more than closed-mindedness.

No, I am asking that there should be an equal recognition, on both sides of this matter, that one might be wrong and that those on the other side have also come to a reasoned and careful conclusion. Normally I would expect that you would do that, but in this case you didn't appear to.

There is no discussion possible in such circumstances.

There's no discussion possible if you don't recognise the possibility
that opinions which differ from your own can be just as thought
through and carefully considered as yours, no.

Have you actually read what I said about the state of the debate within my own church? The whole point about the Derby Resolutions is that, across the church, we all recognise exactly what you ask me to recognise, and that we then honour the views of the others even where we cannot agree with them.

Some in this conversation have made it clear that they think such mutual acceptance is itself sinful, since only one view can ever be considered as correct. I repeat, I would not normally put you into such a category but the way you put things in this case gave me reason to wonder. I am gald to have it confirmed that you are not among that number.
