Many Christians have no church prayer group.
Maybe they prefer to pray in private as Christ taught.
"5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites; for they
love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the
streets so that they should appear to men........ 6 But *thou*, when
thou prayest, enter into thy chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to
thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who sees in secret will
render it to thee. 7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as
those who are of the nations: for they think they shall be heard through
their much speaking. 8 Be not ye therefore like them, for your Father
knows of what things ye have need before ye beg anything of him." Matt
6:5-8 (Darby)
Jeff...
mmm
So did Paul teach them to pray together? Yes.
Privately with the other brethren believers, but not in a public place as
the 'hypocrites' were doing.
Oh?
18"Bring them here to me," he said. 19And he directed the people to sit down
on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to
heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the
disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. 20They all ate and
were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken
pieces that were left over. 21The number of those who ate was about five
thousand men, besides women and children.
I have not previously heard this described as a prayer in private. Clearly
our definitions of private are somewhat different.
Did Jesus also teach public prayer? Yes.
You mean he contradicted the following passage, Phil?
No Jeff. He just flatly contradicts what you claim, see above.
"5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites; for they
love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets
so that they should appear to men........ 6 But *thou*, when thou prayest,
enter into thy chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who
is in secret, and thy Father who sees in secret will render it to thee."
Indeed Jeff. That is one instruction. It is not the only instruction. Some
prayer is private. NO prayer should be because we "love to pray standing in
the synagogues and in the corners of the streets so that they should appear
to men"
How is it that you could read the whole bible each year and totally fail to
understand what it says?
Nice try Jeff.
Well, it's Jesus who always knows best.
Yep.
Phil
