With ES cells they can, by definition make all the tissues and cells of
the body, if they cannot they are not ES cells. They can be maintained
in culture indefinitely until needed. ES cells also allow us much finer
control than derived stem cells, including from the p.o.v. of genetic
manipulation to correct the underlying problem in the first place. The
genomes of other cells are not so easily manipulatable. When we want to
make defined changes to any gene in the mouse, we do it in ES cells and
then use them to make a mouse where they have contributed to the
germline and breed from it. Using that technology we are approaching
knocking out every gene in the mouse. It is very, very, powerful
technology. To limit us to derived stem cells is to deny us that power,
to cure.

And the positive results so far are.....?

Oh ye of little faith.... Have faith my son, good things come to he who
waits etc.

I can see you standing behind Werner von Braun as he watched the first
V2s take off complaining that you couldn't book a flight to a hotel on
the moon. As an objection it is frankly laughable and if applied to
almost any other area of human endeavour would bring life to a halt. You
are looking ridiculous as well as desperate. See what clinging to dogma
to the bitter end does to you? LOL!
