OK, you RCC guys, before I SCREAM at some people in "my" church! The topic today was money, donation rates being way below tithing, average for the denomination about 3.4% they said (although I don't know how anyone measures it). Someone said the solution could be to do what the Catholics do, tell people how much they have to give.
Have you ever heard of a RC church that TOLD people how much they have to give? (Beyond the occasional chat about the desirability of tithing and/or generosity, such as all churches occasionally chat.)
Total news to me! Most priests hate talking about money. (I say they should, IMHO)
I could imagine that somewhere someone has a church hall to be built or something, and sets a target of the type "if each family raised $100 over the next year, we'd have it built and paid for!" But that's not the norm.
I've heard that jealous comment about Baptists, which I know isn't true because I know a lot of Baptists. But I don't know many Catholics. I'd swear I've read their giving rate averages in the 2-3% range.
I wouldn't know. It's not counted like that.
Why do so many churches ASSUME other brands are (a) better off financially and (b) using compulsion to get that much money?
Why don't you ask your lot how they found 'that' out?
Shriek! My blood pressure was lower when I wasn't on a church committee!
There there!

Can you *really* live on nine times
the amount you give to the church?
