Gareth did comprehend it, at least as far as I can see. But what he
comprehended was that you'd answered a different question to the one
that he asked.

Now, there are two possibiities here. Either you do understand the
difference between the two types of answer that Gareth illustrated, or
you don't. If you do, then you have deliberately avoided giving an
answer to the question as asked. If you don't, then it certainly *is*
your problem that you failed to answer the question. Neither of those
reflect particularly well on you, do they?
