I'm not so sure and think there are several possibilities.
I doubt if there is a single person posting to UKRC who doesn't fall
into one or another category condemned by Jeff.
Catholics, Anglicans, homosexuals, those baptised as infants, those
remarried while their previous partner is still alive, hat wearers and
non hat wearers, women who speak in church etc etc.
Jeff is unswerving and consistent, go back to when he was first
posting and you will see the same texts quoted by him in support of
the same ideas. there is not the slightest sign that in the face of
reasoned opposition he has changed his views in the slightest.
I'm sure Jeff would say that he is being faithful to the word of God
but he reads the entire Bible every year and a single days reading
could throw up many subjects that he never touches on.
I'm sure many have attempted to understand him and come to
different conclusions, my tentative theory is that he is at the top
end of the autistic spectrum.
Consider some of the characteristics of those with aspergers;
an idiosyncratic use of language; the focusing in on particular
subjects and small areas of knowledge while not 'seeing' the bigger
picture; a lack of empathy; literal interpretation and a
miscomprehension of nuance, in many ways it fits.
The unusual abilities of those with aspergers can be valuable.
Jeff's gift is to confront us with a literal interpretation of the
words of the Bible, if we have been given a different understanding
it's good to have to give a reason for it.

Thank you for that, Celia. I have, over a period of many years, had many
discussions with Jeff, and appreciate his faithfulness to what he has
been taught about the Bible.

Unfortunately that teaching has been imbued with so many negative
overtones, that he cannot see the glory of Jesus as God the Son, and so
preaches a gospel of works rather than of salvation.

I have been happy to argue with him on many occasions, and even bought
him a pint at our last meet. I told him that I was prepared to discuss
facts, but that if he came out with blanket condemnations of the RCC[1]
I could see little point in further attempts to discuss. He did and so I
ended the discussion; it was his decision.

[1] I have no difficulty in accepting that many bad things have
been done in the name of the RCC, as indeed bad things have been
done throughout the history of mankind by those in power. But
the light illuminates the darkness, the darkness can never
overcome the light.

I have found that sharing and arguing within this group since 1994 has
helped me a lot. I find it disappointing that some go out through the
same door that they came in by.
