I don't know why you should be surprised. This is almost as predictable (and
as regular) as a debate about homosexuality.

Should they refrain from articulating what they consider to be the truth
because some people claim to be offended by it?

As Gareth pointed out, they should be even more frank. Then we would be able
to see the Catholic Church[1] for the cult that it is.
