Personally, I think I would prefer death to life in prison.
Another issue in the discussion is, in some places every professional must report a confession of child abuse to the police, even professions that normally maintain confidence must report. This means someone who has abused a child in the past and wants to stop it cannot seek help from a psychologist, lawyer, or clergy.
