Hmm. Isn't it the case that their position (in this context) consists in a
denial of the faith of others, and hence that arguing against that faith is
de facto arguing for their own position?
And since some deny having any position to argue anyway (in that they don't
actually believe there is no God), they are a little incapacitated in
arguing for their certainties, since they deny having any. Not that it
seems to stop them....
You are confusing the basis of knowledge with claims that have no basis
at all. I do not claim any certainties since all knowledge worth knowing
is by necessity incomplete, however that incompleteness does not in and
of itself incapacitate that which is known. So I am not interested in
and distrust claims of The Truth, yet as a scientist I am engaged in
chipping knowledge away from the coalface of all our ignorances. Some of
it I can be sure of it, some is ambiguous or contingent, waiting for
various confirmations or refutations. The one and only sure basis we
have for knowledge is science, it will quite literally save your life.
Thus is the basis by which I claim to know things and also to know what
is not known in various fields I am most familiar with. When I see good
evidence of your god I will consider the matter. I have so far not only
seen none but having examined that put forward have found it sorely
lacking. There comes a point with a proposed hypothesis that despite
much investigation no evidence in its favour is forthcoming and it must
be put aside. So I am always interested in new evidences but always not
at all expectant of them being interesting.
