Maybe that's because students from fee-paying schools tend to have
more ability.

Having employed a few I would say they are rather well turned out but lack
initiative.
Good at following orders but not using their innovative.
Some of these schools seem very good at taking not very academically gifted
people and giving them good presentational skills.
