That's the trouble with claims to ownership of land. Ultimately, if you go
far enough back, /someone/ must've seized the land in a way that we would
nowadays not recognize as legitimate, either from someone else, or from
the wilds. Which makes it rather hard for *anyone* to claim that a piece
of land is rightfully theirs, when you look deeply enough at the morals.
I would suspect that might impact any moral claim you might make to
compensation :-)

I do So agree, Simon. Have you ever read the Kipling poem/song "The
Land"?
It goes through Romans, Normans etc and eventually realises that the
land
belonged to none of them!

A guy writes a catchy poem and you think he's worth using in an
intellectual argument? You must be English :-)

The fact that it's a poem doesn't stop it being essentially true.

Kipling is an apologist for imperialism, racism, misogyny, and
fascism . For instance, he set up a fund for General Dyer - the man
responsible for the 1919 Amritsar massacre in India. He attacked the
Irish, trade unions, socialism, Free Trade, liberalism, and democracy.
He was a rabble-rouser for the extremist Ulster loyalist factions who
makes Paisely look like a wet liberal.

With his "white man's burden", "lesser breeds without the Law", "half-
devil and half-child" and fundamental, unthinking preference for
Americans and Brits over Indians or Filipinos he was an outright
racist.

It's a good job that one of your many errors in that tirade is one
that, had it been an accurate statement, would have resulted in you
being placed on manual moderation :-)
