I browsed through them at Kings Cross Smith's like you do.

First of all, I thought Buddhist, and this may mislead me.
I am easily led by things I read.

But I kept seeing him quote Jesus, albeit with a bit of a slant.
....like heaven seems to mean our higher selves - which may even partly be the case.

But it did read nicely and therefore I can't make up my mind.
- even after reading the reviews on amazon.co.uk,
which nearly always pursuade me -- sad or what!

I know you can't decide for me, 'cos I'm an adult,
(well - if you don't listen to my wife), but anyone here read the books?

I've read 'The Power of Now' (or more strictly: I've read the first 2-3 chapters of 'the Power of Now' and found it sufficiently repetitive that I think that's roughly equivalent to having read the entire book <g>. Perhaps someone who has actually read the entire book can confirm or deny that?)

Repetitiveness aside, I personally think it's a good and useful book containing some interesting, useful and novel ideas. (You could even regard the need to only read the first few chapters as a time-saving bonus :-) ) I'd say Tolle's background is New Age-ish, and that accounts for his borrowing from and attributing ideas to religions such as Christianity, as recognizing the 'best bits' of other religions tends to be a feature of new age culture.

I guess if you're the sort of person who thinks that anything that doesn't come with an attached label signed by the author and proclaiming 'I am a Christian. We're all sinners. The Bible is Inerrant. Jesus is Lord.' must by definition be useless or evil, then you'll automatically reject Eckhart's books. If you're willing to consider ideas from non-Christian sources, then you may find that The Power of Now contains a fair bit of good advice that might well help you in your spiritual journey with God :-)
