Actually, I don't think looking at the whole context would appease any anger
over this, although it might reveal some divisions in Islamic thought.
Simplifying rather heavily, the question the Pope was addressing was that of
the nature of God - whether God is constrained to act according to His own
word and reason; Christian tradition assumes that He is, whereas some
strands of Islam would contend that he does not.
If Muslims of these strands are upset by the quote, they will probably be no
less upset by the context.
