Of course! So if a river were (say) 24600 miles long (the
circumference of the earth) it would only have to flow for 1678 years
(the time from Creation to the Flood) - so that's a flow rate of
roughly three yards per hour. Slower, of course, if the river were
shorter.
What were they filled with? Honey?
There was a mist that watered the ground. There were some lakes, but
not huge oceans. Because we don't know the exact mecahism, that does
not mean it did not happen.
We are not told be what means the ground was not watered until the
sixth day of creation nor how the whole thing worked exactly, we are
familiar with how things are now.
For God that is an easy thing, he created nature and has power above
nature.
He has the power to supernaturally create rivers and for their not to
be any "rain" until the sixth day. This could have been achieved by
a natural cause that we don't understand or a supernatural process.
We simply don't have enough data to be certain.
I think we need to recognise that we don't have all the answers, for
God anything is possible. We cannot limit God by our own understanding
of nature. He is far above us, infinitely so and can do things we would
not think possible.
Isaiah 55
8 "For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,"
declares the LORD.
9 "As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
55:11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
God's spoke at Creation, and it was so, His word accomplished the
task it was meant to do.
We cannot underestimate the power of His word, it can create, heal,
save and destroy.
To me that is simple logic that the Creator can create and alter
things.
How can sinful man with his puny limited brain question His Creator?
Even Job did not dare do that when God appeared to him.
God Bless
