I don't think that analogy is quite right - since mass tends to be a
thing that involves more than one person, so you wouldn't really expect
that the choice of the music that everyone has to listen to should be
entirely determined by the tastes of one particular participant.

No I think the analogy stands. President Bush (whichever of father or son)
insisted that brocolli not be served at any state function in the White
House or indeed any other US terrority that he effectively hosted. So he
was affecting many participants.
